About: Roberto Brenes is not a typical coffee producer. After studying at Columbia University in New York, he spent much of his career in finance. It was only in retirement that he turned his attention to coffee. Located in the north-west corner of Chiriquí province, Finca Auromar sits just two kilometres from the Costa Rica border, within what Roberto refers to as the Geisha Golden Triangle, alongside farms such as Finca Hartmann and Finca Santa Teresa.
The biodiversity of the area contributes to the distinct character of the coffees produced here. Careful attention to both cultivation and processing has led to consistent recognition, including multiple first-place finishes at the Best of Panama competition, most recently in 2022.
For years, Roberto has referred to his washed Geisha as Ironman, a nod to his participation in endurance events. Although now in his 80s and no longer competing, he remains active, recently completing a trek across the Cordillera mountain range that divides Panama into east and west.
