About: Francis Muigai Muru is a dedicated coffee farmer at Fram Farm, where he takes great pride in cultivating and processing high-quality specialty coffees. He began his coffee farming journey in 2011 when he inherited a portion of the farm and has since expanded it by approximately 40%. The farm's name, "Fram," is derived from the first letters of his first name, "Francis," and his last name, "Muru."
Francis employs regenerative agriculture practices to ensure the farm's long-term sustainability. This includes planting taller trees among the coffee trees to provide shade, enhance soil quality through nitrogen fixation, and minimise soil disturbance through reduced tilling. He primarily cultivates SL-28, Batian, and Ruiru 11 coffee varieties, known for their resilience and sustainability.
Fram Farm stands out as a small estate in Kenya, where traditionally, many small-scale farmers do not process their own coffee but deliver cherry to centralised cooperatives. In contrast, Francis operates a small wet mill, ensuring full traceability from the farm to the cup. His meticulous processing ensures that this is a very tasty brew.
